Laguna is a province of the Philippines located in the CALABARZON region in Luzon. Its capital is Santa Cruz and it is found south-east of Metro Manila, southern province of Rizal, west of Quezon, north of Batangas and east of Cavite. Laguna de bay, which is the largest lake in the Philippines, is almost surrounded by the whole province of Laguna.  Laguna is known as the birthplace of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. It has 276 niches, and is owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Pablo. It was built in 1845 under the auspices of Franciscan Fr. Vicente Velloc. The town’s elite enjoyed the privilege of burial space in this distinctive cemetery. During the revolution against Spain and the war against the United States, the Underground Cemetery was used as a rendezvous of Filipino revolutionaries. Laguna Province is also rich with famous foods. Here are the Top Three (3) Delicacies in Laguna: Espasol This sweet treat is commonly wrapped in rice flour-drenched paper cones, this is cylindrically shaped. In Laguna, you can purchase these from bus vendors or roadside pasalubong shops. Rice puddings are popular in Alaminos, Pagsanjan, Luisiana, and Nagcarlan. In Barangay Yukos, Nagcarlan has a focus of making the best of these. The main ingredients of these are: rice flour, coconut milk, and sweetened coconut. Buko Pie Buko pie, also known as coconut pie, is a baked young-coconut (malauhog) custard pie from the Philippines. In the city of Los Baños, Laguna, on the island of Luzon, it is considered a specialty. The main ingredients of these are: pie shell, custard, young coconut, and sweetened condensed milk. There's still more from Laguna! Here are the Best Three (3) Products that Lagunense are proud of. Embroidery of Lumban, Laguna   The Filipino word for embroidery is burda. It refers to both the activity pagbuburda and the product. But in the town of Lumban here in the Philippines, burda is more than that it is a way of life. Lumban, located in the province of Laguna, has established itself as the Hand Embroidery Capital of the Philippines. It is one of the oldest towns in the province. The designs are meticulously embroidered by hand on a variety of fabrics, including fine cotton, jusi, organza, and piña.  The tradition of hand embroidery in Lumban is centuries old and can be traced to the arrival of the missionaries during the early years of the country’s colonization by the Spanish. In Lumban, ‘burda’ with a twist Lumban’s “burdaderos” (embroiderers) bring to life unique and intricate designs through their skillful handling of thread and needle. Local embroidery shops have been providing livelihood to generations of families in the town. LUMBAN, Laguna, Philippines — The traditional barong Tagalog and “terno” may be timeless, but a modern twist from two young designers from Lumban town in Laguna province gave this Filipino attire a fresh look, through an unlikely material in a family tablecloth. Last year our former Miss Universe 2018 Miss Catriona Gray visits Lumban. A lot of her dress during miss universe competition has a mixed of style with embroidery from Lumban Laguna.
